A traineeship is a training course with work experience, that can lead up to full time work or an apprenticeship. It can last up to six months, and will teach you the very basic skills needed for the chosen industry.

You can apply for a traineeship if you are:

  • Eligible to work in England
  • Unemployed with very little or no work experience
  • Aged 16 to 24
  • Qualified below Level 3

As part of the traineeship, you'll get help with your maths and English skills if you need it, as well as a work experience placement in a relevant sector to develop your vocational skills. All of this will help develop your employability skills, to help with your future career plans.

On a traineeship, you won't be paid for you work, but you may be reimbursed for expenses, like travel and meals.
